Angela is a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Oregon and has been practicing the healing arts for the past 12 years. She is a Certified Teacher in The NIA Technique and in Presence Centered Awareness Therapy. Angela has a gentle loving nature, and is rooted in authentic, open and relaxed presence.
Angela opens a safe supportive environment, with extensive training and excellent skills in advanced therapies. Angela sees clients for massage and bodywork and specializes in Zen Shiatsu, Connective Tissue Therapy, Structural Integration, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Relaxation Massage. She is a Brown Belt Nia Practitioner and guides weekly Nia classes, and workshops in NIA- a blend of movements fused in a holistic practice to support fitness and health. Angela also offers workshops and private sessions in Presence Centered Awareness Therapy- a meditative therapy designed for transpersonal healing and growth. Angela brings joy, a caring, loving heart, and a holistic approach to life to her clients that is inspiring and uplifting.
Beginning with a love for the arts as a young girl, Angela's interests in the visual arts carried her into the program of Art and Architecture at the University of Idaho. After three years at the university she transitioned into gardening and farming organically in her home town of Moscow, Idaho. She developed her crafting skills and continues to be mentored by some of her most kindred spirit folk in the hills surrounding her community. Gardening created deep desires to live in health and abundance. Having studied dance and movement in school Angela progressed into guiding movement and healing arts as she dove into what she desired to bring into her own life.
Angela began her studies of the healing arts in 1998. She traveled in the US, Kauai Hawaii, and Thailand learning eastern and western bodywork techniques and movement forms. She spent five years traveling around the country playing music, going to concerts, collecting information, learning skills and interning at organic farms. She studied in nature and gathered in healing centers where she learned Swedish massage, High Touch Jin Shin acupressure, African dance and drum rhythms, and the Nia Technique. In Thailand Angela was drawn to a Thai massage course and loved the assisted yoga and Thai approach to energy. Interested in deepening her understanding of qi energy in the body she apprenticed with Oda Bogger at the Three Lotus House. Angela stayed for six months in Thailand and in a village outside of Doi Saket learned the art and ancient practices of Zen Shiatsu, Reiki and Qi Kong. Angela returned to Kauai and completed a Massage Therapy and Teachers Assistantship, 2 certified programs with 1200 combined hours of anatomy, physiology, Neuromuscular Therapy, Connective Tissue Therapy , Structural Integration-
"Rolfing" and Presence Centered Awareness consciousness therapies. Angela studied with Lee Joseph and Carol Madsen the directors of the Pacific College for Awareness and Bodywork (PCAB) . She graduated and became Licensed as a Massage Therapist in 2004 and completed her Teachers Assistantship Certification in 2006. Angela studied Cranial Sacral Therapy for Adults in her massage training at PCAB. She has received specialized Cranial Sacral Therapy training from Carol Gray who is a midwife and a pioneer in the field of Cranial Sacral for Infants and Mothers. She blends her education, experiences and intuition and often integrates bodywork modalities into a unique experience to honor the individual.
She became interested in Cranial Sacral Therapy for Infants, and Mothers during Birth, Pregnancy and Postpartum after the birth of her first baby girl in 2006. Angela has embraced new love in her two children. She has a special interest in facilitating a healthy vibrant relationship between mother and her new baby body. She guides mothers to celebrate their bodies, as well as women, children, and men. To dance, play and reclaim, to free up and move in form and freedom for balance, to develop new neurological pathways and feel alive. Angela feels a deep sense of gratitude to be able to share these techniques with people of all ages and walks, on each being's unique journey of life and death. It's in the journey, not the destination!
"When we breath and consciously relax, our bodies naturally respond. We have so many paths and possibilities to explore and right here within ourselves there is unlimited potential. From this place of acceptance and love we can let go, we can release any tension when we let our selves feel, accept, express, move, sense... Breathe, observe.... change, we can take the time to reflect and we get clear. Release just happens, if we let it. If you experience stagnation, pain, tension, soreness, aches, sickness or disease massage therapy, movement and meditation will improve your abilities to heal, regain balance and vitality physically and psychologically. Angela supports her clients by promoting self awareness for health, growth, change and well being.
I offer bodywork and therapeutic positive touch, dance with music and rhythm, and supportive listening with presence because these are the most effective ways that I have found to move energy, to connect with myself, beyond my mood, or circumstance. I love to be in the moment and access awareness. I also love to create a sacred space for your healing and peace within to unfold. To feel tissues release, ease pain, and reorganize the physical structures of the body and encourage spacial alignment, harmony and flow. Together as a team we work with the energetic systems of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Real eyes each aspect is interconnected, relates, and is effected by all other aspects. Using the breath, intention and proven techniques we acknowledge, feel, witness, and in a place of acceptance, without judgement we let go of the stresses and tentions of our days and clear space for a more free, relaxed and pleasant experience.
Theruaputic touch from an intuitive neutral energy, movement for fitness, self expression and exploration, and meditation for inner reflection and peace of mind, helps you to acknowledge the world of energy around you. With the elements and natural world you can learn and practice being open, receptive and acknowledge yourself as a part of, not separate from this energy. Naturally you will be supported, received, and in dynamic ease, finding yourself with more energy, vitality and life force. You can receive an outside source of support, access innate internal wisdom and gain the knowledge and skills to shift and embody lasting positive change.
Angela works with clients to improve structural alignment, range of motion and positive tensegrity in body, and health and wellness in the heart and mind. ~ Nameste

Presence Centered Awareness Therapy
Workshop May 29th, 2010
Saturday 1-4pm
suggested donation $30-65
This workshop is an invitation to simply be. We will experience guided visualization, meditations, processing and therapy to connect to ourselves more deeply. We will share guided techniques and learn ways to create and hold a space for ourselves and others. A space centered in awareness and presence . A practice of care, empathy, reflection that is supportive, honest, authentic and non judgemental.
A time to explore what may be holding you from experiencing the richness of the moment, and ways to really dive in to the peace and oneness, the love and wonderment that life and awareness holds.
This is the most profound set of tools we as evolving beings can receive and extend to others. There is an aliveness in this moment, are we embracing our potential? As we walk through life we carry our experiences, we grow and develop we pick up habits, patterns, subconcious and unconcious behaviors form. There may be unresolved emotions, attitudes, and beliefs that we recycle. We walk through life often repeating familiar interactions with different people recreating the same story without really seeing ourselves. We become so involved in life we react and recreate without taking the time to sit and reflect.
Services
Swedish massage is deeply relaxing, with just the right amount of pressure. Swedish uses long, smooth, flowing strokes to ease muscle tension and reestablish the connection within the body. Eflurauge along with compression, kneading, friction and tapotament are also used to facilitate increased circulation of blood flow, bringing more oxygen, nutrients and the release of toxins to relax muscles, and revive soft tissues.
Zen Shiatsu is a traditional form of japanese bodywork that is deep and nurturing, highly effective and restorative. The technique is rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the concept of Qi/Chi (energy). Areas in the body are energetically assessed measuring their qi~ energy. Noticing an area with too little or too much energy the practitioner can then help to harmonize these areas by redistributing this energy. Zen Shiatsu improves health, balances disharmonies, stimulating the natural healing power of the body. It is as much a physical work on anatomical body structures and meridians (energy lines) as it is an energy-based technique that accesses deeper layers of the body. Traditionally these sessions are done fully clothed on floor mats.
Pregnancy and Postpartum massage is healing and nurturing for both mother and child. Each stage of pregnancy and postpartum is a dramatic change in mama and baby's physiological make up. Taking time to relax and release tension can help sooth the aches pains and fatigue women may experience in pregnancy. Receiving nurturing, positive touch will support the bond and connection of the mother and child and will help to her to tune in, prepare and recover in the birth process. We use side line position, bolsters, cushions and avoid contraindicated pressure points . My intention is to honor and support you on your sacred path of motherhood.
Connective Tissue Therapy CTT
Connective Tissue Therapy is a highly effective, deep tissue therapy that can be specifically designed for each individual. CTT is used to treat and rehabilitate soft tissue and structural injuries, restore greater range of motion, gain more freedom in movement, and greatly reduce and eliminate pain. Connective Tissue Therapy supports the body to heal, transform and reorganize. Every system of the body is positively effected. CTT reestablishes the sense of connection in the body, movement is more graceful and fluid, posture more in alignment and there is more internal support available.
Connective tissue is a network that relays information, transports nutrients and wastes, and functions as a structural glue holding together the contents of the body. CT is found everywhere in the body, it is the interstitial fluid that bathes every cell, including the blood. CT wraps the cells, fibers, and bundles of each muscle. Each individual muscle, and muscle group as well as ligaments, tendons and bones are surrounded and wrapped in connective tissue. Adipose (fat) tissue is also connective tissue. When functioning properly this connective tissue is a continuous web, interconnected to facilitate cellular, and energetic exchange, communication and support within the body. When injury, trauma, compensation, or postural misalignment occur the fibers of the connective tissue become comprimised. They may not heal properly. The fibers may begin to cross and transverse each other and although the body is doing it's best to fix a weakness by patching it up, these patch jobs don't always do the trick. Scaring , tearing in ligaments, tendons and muscle fibers, adhesions, sprains, strains, swelling, referal pain, trigger points, can further restrict blood flow, circulation, exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and can impinge nerves, veins and arteries. Left untreated this cycle can lead to further restrictions and compensations of already weakened and vulnerable areas.
The practitioner uses their own alignment, body mechanics, energy and intention that is sensative, responsive and respectful. By applying a slow, deep pressure to the connective tissue just enough heat is created to convert tissue from a "gel" state- a thicker, dense consistency into a more pliable, liquified "sol" state. When this liquified "SOL" state is created the tissue fibers transform. This liquified state allows the glue to melt, to reach out, the fibers align in a parallel configuration which allows scar tissue to un cross, adhesions to unwind and the underpinnings to free up. With alignment in CT fibers the blood & oxygen flow, nutrients and wastes flow through the area. The matrix and intricate communication system of connective tissue has great potential to heal. By restoring the alignment of the CT fibers, impingment of nerves, veins and arteries that run through the fibers are released. There is less pain, and the tissue is more relaxed. When there is more room and space created in the connective tissue, all the sytems of the body can regain function and harmony of the whole organism can be restored.
The amount of pressure that is received is always up to the client. We ALWAYS respect the body and it's pain thresh hold. If there is resistance and protection the purpose is defeated. So, together we use a scale measuring the intensity so that the pressure is just right for you. This communication allows the individual to actively participate and make decisions in their own healing process and makes these sessions of Connective Tissue Therapy the most effective.
Structural Integration SI
A series of deep connective tissue therapy sessions designed by Ida Rolf to reorganize soft tissues and structures to improve alignment so the being is more spacially integrated with gravity and can experience greater health and vitality. Each session is designed specifically to meet the individuals needs and unique anatomical structures.
From the ground up each individual balances and builds themselves to maintain vertical and horizontal alignment. To maintain this alignment with gravity certain muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascial planes can become tense, shortened. Due to genetics, habitual movement patterns, injury and/or trama theseplanes of connective tissue may twist, form excessive scar tissue, adhesions, and injured tissue. These deviations can lead to weakness, atrophy, nerve impingement and structural damage. If left untreated these conditions can become more acute, chronic and the rest of the body will begin to compensate further stressing and altering the structure.
Structural Integration works to identify these deviations and in sections of the body the specific needs of that area are addressed. It is beneficial to be specific in order to cover each area entirely from the superficial to deep tissues of the feet, lower legs, knees, thighs, pelvis, hips, lower back, core and rib cage, spine, neck, head, shoulder girdle, and the arms. Each part of the body is addressed and intergrated so function is restored and grace is enhanced. The structure is aligned, the adhesionsmelt away, the fascia is organized, this brings more room into the tissues, allowing a cleansing of the metabolic wastes and the redistribution of blood, oxygen and nutrients back into the area.
We use a wide range of tools that may include palpation, friction, connective tissue techniques, elbows, carving knuckles, fists, full body weight, light-deep pressure, breath, intention and client assisted movement. Memories and experiences are stored in the body, reffered to as the muscle memory. As we hold a space of healing, often what needs to be felt or heard can be shared, and accepted. What is no longer needed can be released, and a tangable weight is lifted from the physical body.
There is a potential that can be achieved, and with Structural Integration there are infinite possibilities.
What is unique about the 10 sessions with Angela is...
not only is a space held to revitalize and restore balance in your body, you have a support system to open and discover even more freedom, acceptance, and well being in your mental, emotional, and spiritual self. Structural Integration with Angela integrates highly effective bodywork with a presence that contacts your consciousness and heals through your own awareness.
Cranial Sacral Therapy CST
for Infants, Mothers during Pregnancy Birth and Postpartum and Adults
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, is a gentle non-invasive form of bodywork that mobilizes soft tissue and improves health conditions.

Wear Comfortable Clothes
dress up, fun, wild if you like, most of all feel comfortable.
Nia is traditionally done barefoot.
In Nia we call the feet "the hands that touch the earth." There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet. These nerves are so good for sensing, receivin information and measuring our bodies in space. If you are concerned about being barefoot bring some shoes and see how your feet feel, you can always put them on later.
Begin with an open mind.
A beginner's mind is empty. One that is spacious like a sponge ready to absorb the information. Open to receive one piece and step at a time, when we set aside any judgement and comparison we have more room to really get what is being given.
Learn the Move~
Give yourself time to learn, break it down. First get the base down- the feet, add the legs and then add the core and arms. Have fun observing and remember you're asking your body to do something new.
Move the Move~
After you feel comfortable with the how, let this movement move you. Get into this move, explore the sensations, really feel it. Try on the level that is just right for you.
Energize the Move~ Now that you know the move you canenergize it with your own creative juice. Use this time to make it your own and expresss and explore what you may be feeling. Energize it, and let it out! Notice the energy move inside of you, and the energy this particular movement creates in your body.
Angela is a certified Nia Brown Belt Instructor and has been practicing and teaching Nia for the past 13 years. Angela discovered Nia and fell in love with her body. At the age of 2o with an active self critic and a mind that was trained to judge and compare, she had a deep desire to shift her body image and appreciate and love herself as she was. She also wanted to feel, sense, heal, transform, train and strengthen. To really be in this body as a pathway to the spirit. The fluidity and grace she found, the strength and endurance training, the creative expressive dance, the martial arts energy training, and meditation left her feeling balanced and eager to bring this practice into her every day life. She practiced daily shedding pounds and dripping with sweat. With Nia she continues to be curious, interested and inspired. NIA has changed my life!!!
Now I Am alive, strong and beautiful.
Angela loves movement and uses her experience in jazz, modern, african, and brazilian dance, yoga practice, somatic movement tecniques, thai chi and qi kon, capoeria, Estatic Dance Five Rhythms, and contact improve to energize her Nia practice. Angela also studies the healing arts and is a licensed massage therapist she weaves this knowledge and her life experiences into her Nia classes. Each Nia movement is unique and different and yet so connected, a tapestry woven together with a common thread. Nia is a practice that carries on through daily life as new parts of yourself are discovered. Each movement form invites a different aspect of yourself to evolve. You will be able to deepen your experience and education in Nia with Angela wither you are just beginning or you are already intuit!
